Drimnin String Quartet Academy

The first and third concerts will be full length with an interval for refreshments, while the Sunday morning concert will be a one hour ‘coffee concert’ with no interval, but coffee and other refreshments served from 10.15. The Sunday afternoon concert is expected to finish by 4.30, leaving plenty of time for those from Mull to catch the last ferry at 5.40.

This is the most international event we have hosted at Drimnin. There will be three quartets from three different continents attending the week. Each will perform at all three concerts:

· The Moser Quartet from Switzerland returns for its second week,

· Quartet Integra originating from Japan but currently resident in Germany, joins us for the first time,

· As does the Katarina Quartet from the east coast of the USA, having won the Drimnin String Quartet Academy prize at last year’s prestigious Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition in London

The varied concert programmes, different for each concert, will be curated by John Myerscough, our Artistic Director, and will be drawn largely from the repertoire on which John will have been working with the quartets during the preceding week.

The Sunday concerts are timed to allow visitors from Mull to come over by ferry to Lochaline and return to Mull the same day. Well signed parking is available very close to the chapel.

The concerts and refreshments are free but donations for the work of the St Columba’s Drimnin Trust are welcomed in cash or by contactless at the concerts. There will be an undercover area for anyone wishing to bring a picnic lunch on Sunday.
