The Centre for Recreation and Tourism Research (CRTR) is one of Scotland’s leading tourism research centres, with a huge network of overseas colleagues, clients and collaborators and an impressive portfolio of activity built up since the centre’s inception in 2012.
Located in Fort William, the Outdoor Capital of the UK, the centre is uniquely placed for tourism research and undertakes a range of activities, from academic and applied research to participation in major trans-national projects.
Their research interests, whether in terms of academic activity or industry-facing knowledge exchange projects, are diverse and range from adventure recreation and cultural heritage tourism to digital marketing and regenerative tourism.
Staff members at the centre work closely on a number of initiatives with the School of Adventure Studies, the UK’s leading provider of adventure and marine tourism education, and other UHI partners, such as the Centre for Mountain Studies, the Centre for Living Sustainability and the Institute for Northern Studies.
