Julie and Martin run this friendly small highland hotel which has one of the best panoramic loch and mountain views in Lochaber. The Strontian Hotel Scotland was built in the early 19th Century and was formally the Mine Manager’s House back in 1820.
It has been modernised and renovated since then though- with the Bothy Bar and Restaurant just recently being re-vamped!
The Bothy Bar team will tempt you with wonderful traditional Scottish or International cuisine, with a special focus on local produce. An intimate and recently renovated bar offers a great selection of quality Scottish Whisky, local Real Ales and a wide variety of gins, including Strontian Gins. Sit outside or inside and enjoy some gourmet bar food and amazing views through the large glass windows across the Loch. The beer garden has been extended significantly in 2025 and now offers plenty of outdoor seating.
If you have a four-legged friend with you we now also have tables in the extended bar area where you enjoy the cosy fire and local banter. Families will feel at home here, and extra sofa beds are available in set rooms to turn them into family rooms – just make sure you request this as you book and it will be ready for you on arrival. The Sunart Apartment caters well to families, and we also have a separate landing with two rooms adjacent to each other which works well for family groups.
For those that want to stay connected there is free WIFI and we can help with booking and planning most of your day trips whether it be to see the old ruins of Castle Tioram, hiring a self-drive boat or doing a guided wildlife tour. The hotel is in an ideal location for those travelling to and from the Isle of Mull or on to the Isle of Skye via the local Calmac Ferries, as well as a climb up Ben Nevis via a quick trip to Fort William.
The Strontian Hotel caters small, well-behaved dogs and have specific dog-friendly rooms. It is an ideal base from which to explore the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it’s beautiful beaches and ancient woodlands. For wildlife lovers come and see the Big 5 of Scotland ! You can decide what the Big 5 are but for us it has to be the Otter, Golden and White Tail Eagle, Pine Martens and the lovely seals. You may be lucky and even get to see the Wild Cat.
For those cyclists amongst you we can place your cycles in a safe secure location with individual lock-ups available on site – so whether your wheels are motorised or not, your ride will be safe and secure overnight. There is also plentiful free car parking on site.
